Developed by Great South, the free dashboard brings together key housing information from a range of trusted sources. Users can explore data from a regional level right down to individual neighbourhoods, with easy-to-use maps showing how housing trends vary across Southland.
Great South Chief Executive Chami Abeysinghe said the dashboard had been designed to make useful housing information more accessible.
“Whether you want to see how property values are tracking in your neighbourhood, compare different Southland communities or understand where demand and growth are occurring, the dashboard puts that information at your fingertips,” she said.
For homeowners, buyers and sellers, the dashboard provides a clearer picture of local property value trends and housing markets. It also gives councils, developers, businesses, investors and community organisations a shared source of information to support planning and investment decisions.
Previously, much of this information was spread across different reports, websites and data sources. Bringing it together in one place makes the data easier to find, compare and understand.
“Good decisions rely on good information,” Chami said. “The dashboard gives our communities and decision-makers a stronger evidence base to plan and collaborate with confidence.”
The Housing Dashboard delivers a key action from the Murihiku Southland Housing Action Plan, which was developed following Great South’s region-wide housing needs assessment in 2023. It also forms part of the wider Data and Insights Southland Hub (DISH).
The dashboard will continue to grow, with Airbnb data planned for a future update to provide a fuller picture of short-term accommodation across the region.
“Housing is about much more than roofs over people’s heads. It influences health, workforce participation, economic growth and people’s ability to remain connected to their communities,” Chami said.
“These insights will help shape future housing solutions and support Southland to meet the needs of current and future generations.”
